Camilla Francesca Bull
Camilla has been based in Germany since 2016, establishing herself as an ‘engaging and intriguing singing actress’ while appearing on some of the main stages across Europe. Operatic debuts include a house and (title) role debut at Konzert Theater Bern as Lotario in Handel’s opera of the same name, Cornelia in Oper Halle’s production of ‘Julius Cäsar in Ägypten‘, and Isabella for Zomeropera’s L’Italiana in Algeri in Alden Biesen.
Her broad repertoire encompasses art song, opera, folk, chamber music, early music, oratorio and non-classical collaborations.
Camilla has also appeared in music festivals such as Ponte de Lima (Portugal), Anghiari (Italy), Gut Immling (Germany), Wernigerode Schlossfestspiele (Germany) and Grange Park Opera (UK). Roles have included Orpheus/Gluck’s Orpheus and Euridice, Polinesso/Ariodante, Dorabella/Cosi fan tutte, Dido/Dido and Aeneas, Hänsel/ Hänsel und Gretel and Mercedes and Carmen/ Carmen.
2019 saw Camilla debut in Belgium and Switzerland and 2020 began with a New Year Concert Series with the Südwestphalen Symphony Orchestra. Her debut as Angelina in Rossini’s La Cenerentola under Marcus Bosch was the first contract to be cancelled, followed in quick succession by the cancellation of 5 other productions – including the roles of Mrs Patrick de Rocher in Jake Heggy’s Dead Man Walking, and Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd. As for so many, the pandemic altered the 2020-22 seasons greatly with many cancellations and postponements.
Since Feb 2020 Camilla has worked predominantly on the concert platform, further broadening her musical repertoire and range, and allowing her to better juggle the work/life balance as a new mother to two children. Camilla looks forward to a return to the stage and announcements for the 2024/25 season will be coming soon!
Camilla grew up on the Isle of Wight before moving to London to study singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under Annette Thompson. While studying, Camilla was chosen to represent the Conservatoire in a production of The Rake’s Progress as part of the Aldeburgh Festival, working with director Neil Bartlett and conductor Martyn Brabbins.
After graduating, Camilla was selected to take part in the Opera Works programme with English National Opera – working with Marcello Magni (Complicité), Christian Curnyn, Jane Robinson and John Berry. She also began studying with Robert Dean at this time.
In 2018, Camilla took part in her first, and only, competition, ‘Meistersinger von Nürnberg Wettbewerb’ and was invited to sing on the main stage at the Nürnberg Staatsoper for the final rounds.
